Governor's Message
It is a privilege for me
to lead Rotary District '8Team 7500" for the year 1997-1998.
Throughout the coming year, we will share our goals and objectives which
at first seem almost unattainable, but with the vision and action of
each and every Rotarian, we can and will bring our goals and ideas into
sharper focus. Today we begin to plan for the year. The noble dreams we
now possess will become a reality. A demanding year, a fulfilling year,
a year of outstanding "service above self' lies ahead for each of us.
As each of us prepares
to serve Rotary, we need a guiding beacon, a common focus on which we
can chart our course. "From the Heart", we can build a better world by
leaving a profit for the sake of our children's future. Our program for
the next year is ambitious and challenging, but its thrust can be
expressed simply in the words of our RI President, Glen Kinross and our
theme for the year; SHOW ROTARY CARES.
This is what we will be
asking every member of "Team 7500" to do during the year ahead, SHOW
ROTARY CARES, and prove it by our actions.
SHOW ROTARY CARES, by
attracting new members and developing the kind of meaningful service
projects that offer qualified men and women a reason to join Rotary.
SHOW ROTARY CARES, by
encouraging every Rotarian, through his or her vocation, to reach out to
new generations through the Rotary Mentoring Program, Job Shadowing and
Career Development.
SHOW ROTARY CARES, by
tackling the most difficult community problems, hunger, poverty,
illiteracy, child abuse and street crime. Let us join our Interact Clubs
and involve their members in all areas of community betterment.
SHOW ROTARY CARES, by
supporting world community service projects that comb~ poverty and
hunger and promote literacy for all. Support the orphanage in Santo
Domingo, as well as, the Gift of Life Foundation to be started this
year.
SHOW ROTARY CARES, by
encouraging the support and generosity,, of all Rotarians for our Rotary
Foundation whose resources change people's lives on a daily basis
throughout the world.
I ask each of you to use
all the influence at your disposal as community and professional
leaders, to walk the paths of Rotary with me this year with courage and
commitment, concern and caring. I believe, as past RI President Richard
Evans once said, "We do less than we ought unless we do all that we
can".
