Governor's Message

Welcome to the next Rotary year! As of 1 July, Governor Mike Colasurdo became past District Governor -PDG, and my year as your Governor commenced. With great enthusiasm, I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you to make our District the best in New Jersey.

RI President, Jim Lacey, selected the phrase "FOLLOW YOUR ROTARY DREAM" to be his theme this year, and I believe that what Rotarians CAN DREAM - Rotarians CAN DO! To achieve our individual, club's, and district's goals, we must work together. Working together we can reach our goals, thus, the District motto for the year is "TOGETHER WE CAN!"
This year we adopted the new leadership plan for our district. This plan is being utilized in more than 40% of Districts throughout the Rotary world and eventually will become adopted by all Districts. Basically, under this plan the Deputy Governor, the Assistant Governors, and the Area Representatives will be in constant contact with individual clubs within the District. Also, my official visits to the individual clubs will be extended throughout the entire year. However, I'll be visiting your clubs as requested by your Presidents and/or the Assistant Governors.

This Rotary year is the last full year in the millennium. Next year, 1999 DGN Bill Skidmore will lead our district into the next century and the next millennium. I would like to see the membership of our District reach 1999 Rotarians. That's a net gain of only 6 members per club. I know that "TOGETHER WE CAN!" achieve this goal!

The other District approved goals are: Gift of Life, Ronald McDonald House and Project Literacy.

I hope that you and your clubs will generously support these projects.

Public relations are another important area that we must address. "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" is our motto. We perform many and varied work and/or projects in our community. Being humble, we do not advertise our accomplishments. Many of these go unnoticed. In order to acquaint our respective communities with the work of Rotarians, we must let the community know about our work. So, let's "TOOT OUR HORN" by contacting the local press and other media about our accomplishments. This will spread interest about Rotary and will help to get new members. So let us dream new dreams,, because what we can dream we can do!!

Therefore, "TOGETHER WE CAN":
*Achieve Our Goals
*Dream new dreams
*And follow our Rotary Dreams
