Governor's Message
Welcome to the Rotary year of 2001/2002! As we start this new
exciting year, we have been given the historical opportunity to make a difference. RI President
Richard King's Theme: MANKIND IS OUR BUSINESS brings us back to the basic Object of Rotary,
"to encourage and foster the ideal of service". We have been told that organizations like Rotary
are no longer needed, that we can't get people to join our Clubs. But we know that our "Product -
Service " is desperately needed throughout the world. Hunger, disease, abuse, drugs and lack of
shelter and water are just some of the many programs we are involved in.
If we are to make a difference in the local and world communities,
we need more "hands, hearts and heads". Whether you are a member, Club officer, Club President,
member of the district staff or the Governor, we all as Rotarians must participate in Rotary's
"Global Quest". We know that new members are the lifeline of any successful organization and
we have always prompted membership. This year we have measurable goals, to motivate
all Rotarians. The club goal this year is one member per month, net 5 new members per club by the
District Conference (April 2002). Image the amount of service your club could accomplish with 12
new active members!
Along with our Global Quest Program we have three other key
issues: 1) Club Development & Improvement, 2) Education & Training and 3) Expanded Positive
Public Image. These issues will be addressed at the club level with the help of the District staff.
If Rotary is make a difference, we need to make a COMMITMENT to do the best job possible at
all levels - from the newest member to the District Governor. My District motto is a singular
thought "COMMITMENT". I borrowed it from the Irish Claddagh symbol. When you give your
hands and heart to service, you have made the "COMMITMENT". I challenge
all of you to get involved beyond your weekly meeting to share Rotary. I offer my staff and myself
to help you have the most successful year in the history of District 7500. I truly believe that we
have a Rendezvous with Destiny, as Rotary becomes the most important service organization in the
21st Century.
Yours in Rotary, because
MANKIND IS OUR BUSINESS
