A Message
from Governor Bud
Celebrate
Rotary!
Dear Fellow Rotarians:
One hundred years of service and
fellowship is a great reason for celebration, and during our centennial
year, I will ask all Rotarians to join me as we Celebrate Rotary.
Glenn Estees, Sr., our International
President from Alabama USA, has stated his number one goal will be to
continue to work on archiving a polio free world. Please remember to
complete your pledge by the end of this Rotary year. It will take time
and every dime we pledged to make this the success we all want it to be.
Another priority this year will be
to continue to build the family of Rotary. We need to maintain our
present membership and attract new members so we can continue to do the
great work of Rotary. Please ask a neighbor to attend Rotary so they
can experience the many good things your club does for the community and
your fellow citizens. Bring a business associate into Rotary. Most
people who are not in Rotary will tell you they never joined Rotary
because no one ever asked them. If you bring in one Rotarian, during
this our 100th year, our district would end up with over 3000
members. Just imagine what this would mean as we celebrate Rotary!
I am asking all District 7500
Rotarians to celebrate Rotary by continuing to reach out to their
communities and help where there is need. I want you to think about our
senior citizens and do something for them and also to include our teens
and children as we celebrate Rotary.
Today, basic needs such as food and
water remain out of reach for far too many in our world. Thousands die
each day because of water related diseases and we can help by funding
wells that will bring safe water to the surface.
Another area we can become involved
in is AIDS awareness. I recently read that 14.3 million children have
seen one or both of their parents die from AIDS. We can and should
educate people about this dreaded disease. This will save lives as well
as help our precious children.
We also know we have millions of
illiterate, unskilled people in this world who are trapped in a cocoon
of poverty. Let’s involve our clubs in literacy programs and help free
these people from the prison of poverty.
I wish I had more space to go on
because there are so many things we could talk about and we will during
this centennial year. I thank you for the privilege of serving you as
District Governor. My pledge to you is - I will do my best.
Most of all, I want each of you to
have fun while serving as volunteers in the best service organization in
the world. God bless you and may you have a healthy wonderful year.
Cordially,
Bud Umbaugh |
